Reunion FIU february 2010

At our organization, it has become a tradition to dedicate the month of February to Love and Friendship. This year, as usual, we celebrated this most wonderful and sublime feeling by sharing poems with the public. Love for God, for our family and friends; love for life, for our neighbors and homeland… These were just a few of the emotional messages poured into the poetry of Marily A. Reyes, Ivonne Martin, and Lidia Silva (who, by the way, amazed everyone with her excellent memory). Ubaldo Henriquez delighted us with a moving rendition of a much beloved poem: El duelo del mayoral. At one point of the gathering, Modesto Garcia intervened to express his gratitude to a “Good Samaritan”: our brand-new 2nd Vice President Ernesto Soler (he gave Modesto and Ela a “ride” to FIU, so they could attend the meeting and honor us with their poems). Another motive for joy was the presence of our poet-musician Zabdiel. Then, when we least expected it, our brilliant Assistant Secretary Nilda Puchades gave us a “theme homework” in Spanish (now I know why they say that teachers are forever…). The topic: “What does love mean to you?” You can read the results of this heart-storming feat and start wishing you had been here.
Yes, it was indeed a lovely night, in spite of the naughty weather. Our dear friend Gloria Leon (Santa Cecilia Cultural Society) sent us a note that captures the essence of this group: “The Cove/Rincon is marvelous. Its members offer their love to those who participate, as well as to those who, for any reason, are unable to go.”

Five women that in our time and style, share our feeling through the poetical expression. Simultaneously, her artwork was exhibited and will remain until february 22th.
This presentation was very emotional for our family, we had the pleasure of the presence of Marily A. Reyes who came from Miami, and our members Iván Portela, Ana Edith Tequextle, Ma. Pilar Martínez and Ladis Serrano, that besides Iván, traveled from Puebla, Coahuila and Guerrero. We thank God for letting us share such especial day with our friends.
